we're underway...

Well I've started the process. Last week I went onto the Concept 2 website and used their great tools to create a rowing programme for the next sixteen weeks. The process begins with a test 2000m time, it then gives you a training programme based on the time and your resting heart rate. My test time was 9mins 02 secs and the machine spewed out a training programme that I'm going to endeavour to stick to. I want to try to get my test time down below 8minutes by Christmas.

Last week the schedule was:

TUESDAY 2x10mins 2183m+2269m
WEDNESDAY 1x18mins 3848m
THURSDAY 13mins+14mins 2276m+2980m
FRIDAY 1x20mins 4532m

TOTAL 18558m

NOT BAD, 18.5km in a week.

This week so far I've done:

TUESDAY 2x11mins 2277m+2408m
WEDNESDAY 2x14mins 3068m+2946m

As well as the rowing I've also been running with Tain Runners each Monday night. I'm trying to get the routes we run put up on here if I can. If I manage to work it out they'll appear somewhere nearby!

The great thing about running with others is the motivation you get to keep going! I've never tried running before as I just stop after a couple of hundred meters and treat the rest of the way as a pleasant nature ramble. When you're running with a group it really motivates you to keep going. If you're thinking of getting a bit fitter, I'd really recommend looking into local groups in your area.

On Saturday we went to Golspie to take part in a little run over there. My Wife's a very good runner indeed and she was taking part in the 10k race. There was a 3km fun-run at the same time so I took my 6 year old daughter and my 2 year old son and we entered it together. We had a brilliant time although I did end up carrying my litle boy on my back for a lot of the way!

Anyway, that's it for now. I'm really starting to enjoy all this exercise and I'll be back in a week or so to catch up with the latest.
